(Tampa, FL- Sept. 20, 2013) Celebrate Golftober during “Breast Cancer Awareness” month at Rocky Point, Rogers Park or Babe Zaharias Golf Courses and you could be helping find a cure for breast cancer. Join in the celebration by sponsoring a hole in memory of a loved one or in honor of a cancer survivor. The hole sign will be up the entire month of October and 100% of those proceeds go directly back to Moffitt Cancer Center. Tampa City Men’s Amateur Championship to be held at Rogers Park Golf Course on April 20-21

(Tampa, FL- March 26, 2013) The 2013 Tampa City Men’s Amateur Championship, a tradition since 1947, takes place on April 20 & 21 at Rogers Park Golf Course. This event crowns the top amateur in the area, based on a 36-hole stroke play competition. The event is open to amateur men that are at least 18 years old, with a verified handicap of 18.0 or less. The field is limited to the first 100 official entries. The $95 fee includes green fees, carts, awards, tee gift and practice round at cart fee rate. Entries will not become official until handicap is verified by your home course.

“This championship should attract the top amateur male golfers in the area,” said Kennie Sims, Vice President of Golf for the Tampa Sports Authority, who manages Rogers Park Golf Course, “and to ensure the best field possible, we have reduced the entry fee to only $95.”

“I always had the Tampa City Amateur Championship on my schedule during my amateur playing days,” said Gary Koch, the 1975 Champion, “and I would encourage all the current amateurs in the area to do the same.”

Here are some interesting facts about past champions:

  • The inaugural event in 1947 was won by the legendary Harry Root Jr.
  • The 1975 champion, Gary Koch, was a 10-time winner on the PGA & Champions Tours and is currently a golf analyst for NBC Sports.
  • Justin Trombley, the 1991 winner, is the current teaching professional at Palma Ceia Country Club.

Eligibility: Amateur men that are at least 18 years of age with a verified handicap index of 18.0 or less.

Entries will not become official until handicap is verified by your home course.

Format: 36 Hole Stroke Play.

Competitors will be pre-flighted by their verified handicap.

Entry Fee: $95.00 Fee includes green fee, carts, awards, tee gift and practice round at cart fee rate.

Deadline: Sunday, April 14th by 12:00 pm or 100 entries.

Battle at The Babe 2012

The 4th annual Battle at The Babe Tournament will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 27 at Babe Zaharias Golf Course. The following players are scheduled to compete:

  • Former PGA Tour winners John Huston and Gary Koch
  • Current LPGA Tour players Brittany Lincicome, Kris Tamulis, and Cindy Lacrosse
  • Former Big Break competitor Sally Dee
  • Current Babe Zaharias course record holder and professional golfer Brad Brunner
  • Rogers Park Head Professional, and past Battle at the Babe champion T.J. Heidel

This year the tournament will have a new team format. Each team playing in the competition will be comprised of one male golfer and one female golfer.

In order to watch the tournament, a spectator badge must be purchased for $10. These badges can be purchased in advance at any of the participating golf courses.

  • Avila Golf and Country Club
  • St. Petersburg Country Club
  • Emerald Greens Golf Resort and Country Club

All of the proceeds will benefit the First Tee of Tampa Bay, as well as other local junior golf programs. These badges are walking only passes to the event. In memory of a sports legend, The Tampa Sports Authority is celebrating what would have been the 101st birthday of Babe Didrikson Zaharias on Saturday, June 23 at Babe Zaharias Golf Course.

The Tampa Sports Authority is hosting a 4-person scramble golf tournament with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. A limited amount of slots are available. The entry fee is $50 and includes lunch. As Babe died from cancer, a portion of the proceeds from the tournament will go to the Moffitt Cancer Center in her memory. Tampa City Men’s Amateur Championship At Rogers Park Golf Course

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa City Men’s Amateur Championship will be held at Rogers Park Golf Course on Saturday, April 21st through Sunday, April 22nd, 2012.

All amateur golfers are encouraged to sign-up by Sunday, April 15th at 12:00 p.m. Entries are limited to 100 players and may fill up before this date. Players will compete in a 36-hole stroke play event for a $150 entry fee. This fee will include a courtesy practice round with a $15 cart fee. Tournament rounds include range balls, carts and a tee gift. Competitors’ flights will be determined by their handicap.

Amateur men should be at least 18 years of age with a verified handicap index of 18.0 or less. After Saturday’s round, the golfers will enjoy a lunch buffet in the Rogers Park clubhouse.
