The Tampa Sports Authority was created May 28, 1965 by Governor Hayden Burns for the purpose of planning, developing, and maintaining a comprehensive complex of sports and recreational facilities for the Tampa Bay area.
Although the Tampa Sports Authority’s goals and mission statement are essentially the same thirty years after its creation, the scope of the Tampa Sports Authority’s involvement in various projects is constantly expanding.
The core responsibility of the Tampa Sports Authority is to manage Raymond James Stadium and three city golf courses.

The Tampa Sports Authority board of directors held their annual reorganization meeting on Tuesday, July 27. Each year the board elects the officers for the following year.
This year’s governing board will consist of Frank Debose, Chairman; Tony Muniz, Vice Chairman; and Randy Lawson, Secretary/Treasurer.
