The Tampa Sports Authority would like to thank all our golfers for participating in the Name That Bar! Contest, which was in honor of the newly renovated bar at Rocky Point Golf Course. We had some outstanding suggestions from many different customers and picking just one was not an easy task. However we needed to come up with a single name from all those entries and have chosen “The Rock” for its simplicity, catchiness and marketing possibilities. Come join us at “The Rock” for a libation or two after your next round of golf or simply come by to watch a game on any one of our five big screen TV’s. Thank you again to all participants.

Bring the whole family out to Rogers Park Golf Course on August 27 for Family Fun Day. The day will start at 10 a.m. and will feature a variety of activities for all ages including an indoor/outdoor interactive contest, indoor long drive contest for adults, 4-person scramble golf tournament, 10-minute golf lesson with TSA and The First Tee instructors, and an indoor closest to the pin contest for kids. Entry fee for the tournament is $25 per person and includes green fee, cart fee, BBQ lunch and range balls.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the golf magnet program at Franklin and Ferrell Middle Schools.

Babe Zaharias Golf Course has won first place or a gold award in the Tampa Tribune's annual Best of Carollwood Tampa 2011 readers' contest. “It’s an honor to be selected by the Tribune readers in Carrollwood,” Tampa Sports Authority Executive Director Eric Hart said. “The Authority has taken many steps in the past 18 months to improve our service, clubhouse and course conditions; being selected by the readers demonstrates our improvements have been recognized.”
It has always been a goal at the Tampa Sports Authority to make the golf course user-friendly and challenging for all players, and board members are looking to further its prosperity.
“It’s improved tremendously over the years, and I think it’s going to improve throughout the years to come,” Treasurer of Babe Zaharias Women’s Golf Association and TSA Citizen Advisory Board Member Diana Morris said. “I would like to see (the golf course) continue to grow and become a major golf course in the area.”
The winners section for the Best of Carrollwood Tampa 2011 goes to press August 24.

2nd Annual Babe Zaharias Day, 100th Birthday Celebration Saturday
In memory of a sports legend, Tampa Sports Authority in collaboration with the Forest Hills Neighborhood Association is celebrating what would have been the 100th birthday of Babe Didrikson Zaharias on Saturday at the Babe Zaharias Golf Course. Newly elected Mayor Bob Buckhorn will declare the day as “Babe Zaharias Day” in a special ceremony on the clubhouse patio.
Tampa Sports Authority is hosting two 4-person scramble golf tournaments with shotgun starts at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. All the slots for the 9 a.m. shotgun have been filled, but there is still room in the 2 p.m. time slot. The entry fee is $50 and includes lunch. As Babe died from cancer, a portion of the proceeds from the tournament will go to the Moffitt Cancer Center in her memory. To also honor the golf pro’s memory, Don Van Natta Jr., author of the book “Wonder Girl,” a definitive biography of Babe Zaharias, will host a book signing in the golf course’s club house starting at 1:30 p.m.
The Forest Hills Neighborhood Association will provide free activities open to the public on the grounds of the golf course throughout the afternoon. A concert will start at 11 a.m. with local acts Zuberi Brown, Big Wiggler and Johnny G. Lyon. There will also be a moonwalk, clowns and a coloring book contest for kids. Food, beverages and desserts will be available for purchase on site. Tampa Sports Authority is the manager of Raymond James Stadium and three city of Tampa golf courses, including Babe Zaharias, Golf Course, Rocky Point Golf Course and Rogers Park Golf Course. TSA was originally created as a public agency by Chapter 65-2307, Laws of Florida, on May 28, 1965, and as such is an Independent Special District.
The Tampa Sports Authority is bringing awareness to the Tampa Bay First Tee Organization by hosting one of our monthly mini tournaments at Rogers Park Golf Course on June 23 at 4:30 p.m. The 9-hole tournament is $25 per participant, and food is included. Aside from the tournament, there will also be a Golf Lesson Raffle, Merchandise Raffle, 50/50 Raffle, Mulligans and Putting Contest. For more information, call 813-236-3598.
