FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 4/4/12
The National Football League today announced its 2012 preseason lineup, with a schedule for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that features home games against the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots, as well as road contests against the Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins.
Tampa Bay travels to Miami to commence preseason play during Week 1 (August 9-13). The matchup continues a long-standing preseason tradition, as it is the 12th consecutive season and 27th time overall that the clubs will have met in exhibition play. The game also features the debut of two NFL head coaches, with Greg Schiano leading the Buccaneers and Joe Philbin directing the Dolphins. Tampa Bay has won six of the last 10 preseason meetings between the two franchises, including a 17-13 victory in 2011.
The Buccaneers' home preseason opener will take place during Week 2 (August 16-20), when the Tennessee Titans visit Raymond James Stadium. The game will mark the first time that Tampa Bay has hosted Tennessee in the preseason since a 1989 tilt with the then-Houston Oilers.
In Week 3 of the preseason (August 23-26), Schiano's Buccaneers will square off against Bill Belichick's Patriots, as Tampa Bay hosts New England. This meeting denotes the fourth time in the past six preseasons that two teams have met in Tampa.
For the second consecutive year, the Buccaneers close their exhibition slate on the road at Washington. The preseason finale will provide a final opportunity for players to make a case for a roster spot, with reduction to the 53 active-roster players occurring September 1.
