Chesney and McGraw Kick Off Summer with First Joint Rehearsal 'Brothers of the Sun' Tour Kicks Off June 2 at RJS

With the drumbeat to summer growing louder, rehearsals for the hottest tour of the summer are in full swing. The 'Brothers of the Sun' Tour, with Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw, hit the next level of production yesterday when Chesney and McGraw met for their first on-stage, joint rehearsal.

"Yesterday's rehearsal with Tim and I and our bands was as electric and exciting as we anticipated," said Chesney, the man with nine summers of playing to crowds of more than one million a year. "It's been a long time since we've played on stage together and the chemistry and excitement is just so natural. It's going to be a dream come true to have our years of friendship come together on stage for what will be one unpredictable, loud, hell of a summer, and I can't wait," Chesney continued.

The 3+ hour working rehearsal found the friends working out songs for the tour, which kicks off June 2 in Tampa, FL. With shows at more than 20 stadiums across the country, including MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford NJ, Soldier Field in Chicago, IL, Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA, Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, PA, Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA and Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, TX, the tour is set to be the musical event of 2012.

This weekend's Amazing Race 2012 charity event in New Orleans with Drew Brees and Matthew McConaughey marks Chesney and his band's first public performance since the debut of "Feel Like a Rock Star" at the ACM Awards. Chesney's 13th studio album, 'Welcome To The Fishbowl,' will be available on June 19 (BNA Records) and the first single, "Feel Like A Rock Star," with tourmate Tim McGraw, debuted in early April and has quickly climbed the charts.

For Immediate Release --U.S. to Face Antigua and Barbuda in Opening Match of Semifinal Round Group Play

CHICAGO (Feb. 15, 2012) – The United States will kick off the effort to qualify for its seventh consecutive FIFA World Cup when they host Antigua and Barbuda on June 8 at Raymond James Stadium, marking the first World Cup qualifier in the state of Florida since the USA defeated Mexico 2-1 on Nov. 23, 1980, in Ft. Lauderdale. The semifinal round opener begins at 7 p.m. ET live on ESPN, ESPN3 and the Univision family of networks.

Ticket information will be announced in the near future. To find out when tickets will go on sale, join U.S. Soccer’s ticket alert email list. For the opportunity to purchase tickets for the match against Antigua and Barbuda before the general public, join the U.S. Soccer Supporters Club and earn priority access to the ticket presale.

“Our focus since last summer has been to prepare this team for World Cup qualifying, and we are thrilled that we can start the process in Tampa,” said Klinsmann. “It’s critical that we start qualifying off on the right foot, so to be in a place where the team has had such great support is a huge positive for us. The players always talk about how great the surface is at Raymond James Stadium, so overall we think is the ideal venue.”

The United States has never played against Antigua and Barbuda, which qualified for the Semifinal Round of qualifying for the first time ever after winning Group F with a combined score of 25-3. Along with these two teams, Group A is comprised of Guatemala and Jamaica. Each opponent will meet twice, once at home and once away, in round robin play. The top teams from each of three groups will advance to the Final Round of qualifying, which will take place in 2013. Three teams will automatically qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, while the fourth place team will play in a two-leg playoff against the winner of the Oceania region.

The United States will be making its seventh appearance in Tampa dating back to a 1-1 tie with Switzerland in 1985. Overall the U.S. has a 3-2-1 record with wins against Finland (1990), Ecuador (2007) and El Salvador (2010). The 2007 matchup is the most memorable, with 31,547 on hand at Raymond James Stadium to see a magnificent hat trick by Landon Donovan in a 3-1 victory. In 2008, Raymond James Stadium hosted the U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team for the group phase of CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying. The U.S. posted a 2-0-1 record against Cuba, Panama and Honduras.

The U.S. will play a series of friendlies in preparation for the start of qualifying, first meeting Scotland on May 26 at EverBank Field. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET, and the match will be shown live on the NBC Sports Network in the channel’s debut broadcast of a U.S. National Team game, as well as the Univision family of networks.

Following the match against Scotland, the U.S. continues its competition against the world’s top teams when they host five-time World Cup champions Brazil on Wednesday, May 30 in Landover, Md. Kickoff for the USA’s first ever match at FedExField is set for 8 p.m. ET, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2, ESPN3 and Univision.

For the last game before the start of World Cup qualifying, the United States will make a rare visit to Canada when it renews the rivalry June 3 at BMO Field in Toronto. Kickoff for the USA’s first match on Canadian soil since 1997 is set for 7 p.m. ET, and the match will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network.

Joe Louis Barrow to Be Honored at National Black Golf Hall of Fame

Contact: John Simpson Michael CooperNational Black Golf Hall of Fame The First Tee 407.497.2233 (813) 960-0825 john@nationalblackgolfhalloffame.com mcooper@thefirsttee.org

TAMPA, FL – February 24, 2011 – Steve Mona, CEO of the World Golf Foundation, will be the keynote speaker at the National Black Golf Hall of Fame as it celebrates its 25th year. The dinner and induction ceremony will be on March 5, 2011 at the Embassy Suites – USF, in Tampa, FL. The 2011 inductees will be Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., CEO of The First Tee; Rose Harper, golf industry entrepreneur and CEO of The Grass Ceiling; and Dr. Calvin Sinnette, physician, historian and author of Forbidden Fairways.

The mission of the National Black Golf Hall of Fame is “to recognize and honor the contributions of Black golfers for their skills and, to honor persons, regardless of race or ethnicity, who have done the most to promote golf in the Black communities.” Among the original class of inductees 25 years ago were James Black, Jim Brown, Arnold Palmer, Jim and Chuck Thorpe, and the late heavyweight champion of the world and golf enthusiast, Joe Louis Barrow. The organization was founded in 1986 by the late Harold Dunovant, the first African American to complete the PGA business school.

Barrow said: “I am humbled and feel it a privilege to be inducted in the National Black Golf Hall of Fame. The fact that it comes on the 25th anniversary of my father’s recognition makes it even more special. To be associated with the many Black pioneers of golf, individuals who have fought so hard to assure the game was ever present in our community, is an honor. This is a recognition of which I am deeply proud.”

Harper said: “It humbles me that I am even considered for the National Black Golf Hall of Fame. I am standing on the shoulders of so many before me that paved the way for African Americans in the golf industry.”

Sinnette said: “I am joining a very significant group of people in the United States who have contributed to the game of golf; and especially their involvement with African Americans and their contributions to golf. I feel greatly honored to be included in this group.”

The dinner and induction ceremony will be one of three significant activities under the umbrella of the Mid Winter Golf Classic. Other events in the celebratory weekend will include the Advocates Invitational Pro Tour and Mid Winter Amateur Golf Classic, March 5-6, 2011 at historic Rogers Park Golf Course. Proceeds from the weekend benefit The First Tee of Tampa Bay’s youth golf and academic programs.

This will mark the second season for the Advocates Invitational Pro Tour, a series of three events designed to identify talented golfers of color, and to ultimately increase the number of African American professionals on the PGA Tour. The pro series is sponsored by the Advocates USA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to mentoring and generating opportunities for African American individuals and communities.

It was at Rogers Park that minority golfers gathered and celebrated throughout the 1960s and ’70s. Then, the Mid Winter Open welcomed professional and amateur golfers of all nationalities, and gave them an opportunity to showcase their talents in a festive environment. The event was an important part of what was affectionately known as the “Chitlin Circuit,” a series of events sponsored by the United Golfers Association, an organization dedicated to African American golfers. The legacy of the Mid Winter Golf Classic continues, and its heritage will again be commemorated through these three important activities.

Dirt for Monster Jam to Cover Raymond James Stadium Field

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY Who: Monster Jam

What: In preparation for two Monster Jam shows on January 22 and February 5, the Monster Jam field crew at Raymond James Stadium will begin covering the grass with over 300 truckloads of dirt. The crew will first lay a protective fabric piece over the grass, followed by a plastic cover. The mounds of dirt will be piled on top of these protective layers. Although the grass will die during the two week period that it is covered in dirt, the protective layers will keep bacteria from potentially seeping into the ground. The turf will be replaced following the last show.

When: Wednesday, January 19, 2011 – 7:00 a.m.

Where: Raymond James Stadium

How: The dirt moving process will begin in the stadium’s south parking lot off of Tampa Bay Blvd and Himes Ave at 7:00 a.m. Dirt will be dug up from the parking lot and the trucks will transport the dirt to the stadium, entering at Dock D and eventually cover the field. Once the trucks begin transporting the dirt at 10:00 a.m., they will run non-stop during daylight hours for two days.

For safety reasons, field access requires the use of a safety vest. For more information or media clearance into the stadium, please call Barbara Casey at 813-477-0974 or email at bcasey@tampasportsauthority.com.

TSA FIELD CREW MEMBER TO REPRESENT TAMPA IN SUPER BOWL XLV

TAMPA REPRESENTED IN DALLAS AT SUPER BOWL XLV

Tampa, FL...December 17, 2010...The NFL Super Bowl Field Director has selected Tampa native Wayne Ward to join the field crew in Dallas as they prepare the grass surface for this year’s Super Bowl XLV at Cowboys Stadium.

Ward, 40, and a graduate of Leto High School, has worked for the Tampa Sports Authority as a grounds crew assistant on the fields at Tampa Stadium and Raymond James Stadium for 19 years including three Super Bowls, XXV, XXXV and XLIII.  During that time, Tampa’s playing surface has been consistently ranked at the top of the NFL fields according to an NFL Players Association survey of the players.  Ward will spend two weeks in Dallas with the NFL grounds crew beginning January 10th.

“Wayne is a skilled, talented, diligent worker who truly cares about what he is doing and the quality of work he delivers,” said Ed Mangan, Super Bowl Field Director for the NFL.  Mangan noted that Ward’s experience and skills in grooming fields in a tight time frame was particularly important in his selection for the assignment. Ward also worked the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl XLIV last year at Dolphins Stadium, adding to the confidence Mangan has in Ward’s work experience.

Eric Hart, executive director of Tampa Sports Authority, managers of Raymond James Stadium, stated that “Wayne’s dedication to detail and his in-depth knowledge of the care and maintenance of playing surfaces makes him a natural choice for the turf duties in Dallas.”

Cowboys Stadium will host the Super Bowl XLV on February 6, 2011.  Mangan has been the Super Bowl Field Director for the NFL for 11 years and has worked on 22 Super Bowls including working with Ward at Tampa’s last two Super Bowls.
