For Immediate Release West Martin Luther King at the intersection of North Habana Avenue Closed on May 25, 2012
Tampa, Fla (May 15, 2012) Starting at midnight on May 25, 2012, the City of Tampa’s Wastewater Department will close the intersection of West Martin Luther King Blvd at Habana Avenue to replace a section of deteriorated sewer pipe. The replacement is required to restore the integrity of the pipeline and to ensure that wastewater service to several critical facilities within the area is maintained. Continued deterioration of the pipeline could result in a pipeline failure that would cause wastewater overflows and damage to the roadway. During the repairs, the intersection will be closed to through traffic. THIS WILL AFFECT THE SUNSET MUSIC FESTIVAL AT RAYMOND JAMES STADIUM ON SATURDAY, MAY 26.
The following detours will be in place to route traffic around the area:
West Martin Luther King Boulevard
Eastbound traffic on West Martin Luther King Boulevard will be detoured at North Himes Avenue:
- Traffic will turn left onto North Himes Avenue and travel north to West Hillsborough Avenue.
- Turn right onto Hillsborough Avenue and travel east to North Armenia Avenue.
- Turn right onto North Armenia and travel south to return to West Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Westbound traffic on West Martin Luther King Boulevard will be detoured at North Armenia Avenue:
- Traffic will turn right onto North Armenia Avenue and travel north to West Hillsborough Avenue.
- Turn left onto West Hillsborough Avenue and travel west to North Himes Avenue.
- Turn left onto North Himes Avenue and travel south to return to West Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Habana Avenue
Northbound traffic on Habana Avenue will be detoured at Columbus Drive:
- Traffic will turn right onto Columbus Drive and travel east to Howard Avenue.
- Turn left onto Howard Avenue and travel north to Hillsborough Avenue.
- Turn left onto Hillsborough Avenue and travel west to return to Habana Avenue.
Southbound traffic on Habana Avenue will be detoured at Hillsborough Avenue:
- Traffic will turn right onto Hillsborough Avenue and travel west to Himes Avenue.
- Turn left onto Himes Avenue and travel south to Columbus Drive.
- Turn left onto Columbus Drive and travel east to return to Habana Avenue.

The repairs are scheduled to be completed by Monday, May 28, 2012. Once the repairs are done, the intersection will be re-opened to normal traffic patterns. While this work is underway, the City advises that motorists use alternate roads for travel to minimize delays or congestion.
