U.S. SOCCER TO HOST THREE OF WORLD’S TOP WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAMS

FOR SHEBELIEVES CUP FROM MARCH 3-9 IN TAMPA, NASHVILLE AND BOCA RATON

Raymond James Stadium, Nissan Stadium and FAU Stadium Will Each Host a Doubleheader Featuring the USA, England, Germany and France

CHICAGO (Jan. 12, 2016) – U.S. Soccer will host an elite, four-team international tournament featuring four of the top five ranked women’s national teams in the world as England, France and Germany join the USA for the SheBelieves Cup to be held from March 3-9 at three venues in the southeastern United States. The SheBelieves Cup underlines U.S. Soccer’s continued commitment to investing in the growth of women’s soccer, and will be the globe’s premier women’s soccer tournament staged in advance of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Conceived and developed by the USWNT players, #SheBelieves is a movement to inspire young girls and encourage them to accomplish all their goals and dreams, athletic or otherwise. The campaign launched in the run-up to the 2015 Women’s World Cup and has grown since then as the team and its fans have taken its powerful message into their communities. The SheBelieves Cup is a showcase event for the campaign, which will continue to spread its positive message to young women and girls.

The USA’s hosting of the 2016 SheBelieves Cup, which will be the top four-nation women’s international tournament in the world this year, means the U.S. Women will not attend the Algarve Cup in Portugal, an annual spring tournament it has attended for the past 18 consecutive years and 20 times overall. Instead, U.S. Soccer will pit four of the world’s top-ranked teams in three doubleheaders taking place on March 3 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida (Germany vs. France and USA vs. England), March 6 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee (USA vs. France and Germany vs. England) and March 9 at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida (France vs. England and USA vs. Germany). The USA’s first match against England will be broadcast on FS1, and its following two games against France and Germany will both be broadcast on ESPN3. None of the non-USA matches are scheduled to be broadcast at this time.

Tickets for all three doubleheaders go on sale to the public Friday, Jan. 15, at 10 a.m. local time through ussoccer.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 and at all Ticketmaster ticket centers in the local venue areas. [Note: Tickets are not sold at either Raymond James Stadium or FAU Stadium except on the day of the event.] Groups of 20 or more can obtain an order form at ussoccer.com. Ultimate Fan Tickets (special VIP packages that include a premium ticket, a custom-made official U.S. National Team jersey with name and number, VIP access to the field before and after the game, and other unique benefits) are available for the Nashville event only, exclusively through ussoccer.com.

U.S. Soccer will also offer a four-day Girls Fantasy Camp around the second set of matches during the tournament. The Camp will be held in Nashville, Tennessee from March 4-7 and is open to girls born in 2001, 2002 and 2003. This exclusive fan-player opportunity includes training sessions with former Women’s National Team stars, VIP access to a WNT training session, on-field match tickets, a pre-game stadium tour and field-level access to watch warm-ups, U.S. Soccer training apparel and jersey, accommodations, meals and more. The Camp is a fundraiser to support U.S. Soccer development initiatives and includes a tax-deductible donation. For more information and to register, contact fantasycamp@ussoccer.org.

The winner of the tournament will be based on total points (three for a win, one for a tie), with the first tie-breaker being overall goal difference, followed by most total tournament goals scored, then head-to-head result and lastly, FIFA Ranking if necessary.

The USA is currently first in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings. Germany is ranked second, France is third and England is fifth. The USA, Germany and England all advanced to semifinals of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup with Germany beating France in a quarterfinal penalty kick shootout to earn its spot in the last four.

“When I took this job, one of my main objectives was to play the best teams in the world during our preparation periods and you can’t ask for better matches,” said Ellis. “This is another sign of U.S. Soccer’s dedication to the women’s game to organize a tournament like this, which will bring some of the world’s best teams and players to the USA. To get the chance to play these great teams on home soil is a treat for our fans and extremely valuable in the further evolution of our team. These are the kinds of games where you get tested all over the field and can really evaluate players and learn a lot about ourselves.”

All three matches carry some significant storylines for the USA. The meeting with Germany will be the first since the epic 2015 Women’s World Cup semifinal, a 2-0 U.S. victory. The meeting with France will be the first since the 2015 Algarve Cup championship game, a 2-0 U.S. win that reversed a 2-0 loss in the teams’ first match of 2015. The meeting with England will be the first since the USA’s narrow 1-0 victory in Milton Keynes, England in early February of last year that sparked a 24-game unbeaten streak which included the run to the World Cup title.

In addition, the other matches carry tremendous intrigue with Germany facing France in a rematch of their Women’s World Cup quarterfinal, and England taking on Germany, the team it defeated in the third-place match of the Women’s World Cup.

Additional notes:

•The USA is 19-4-7 all-time against Germany and 2-0-0 against West Germany in matches played in 1988 and 1990. The most recent meeting between the teams came on June 30 in Montreal as the USA defeated Germany 2-0 in the 2015 Women’s World Cup semifinal on goals from Carli Lloyd and Kelley O’Hara.

•The USA is 15-1-2 all-time against France, with the lone loss coming on Feb. 8 of last year, a 2-0 setback in Lorient, France that kicked off the 2015 schedule. The USA avenged the loss with a 2-0 victory in the championship game of the 2015 Algarve Cup in Portugal as Julie Johnston and Christen Press scored. The losing team in both those games had a penalty kick saved as Sarah Bouhaddi denied Abby Wambach in Lorient and Hope Solo denied Amandine Henry in Faro.

•The USA is 7-3-1 all-time against England, which includes the most recent match between the teams: a 1-0 victory on Feb. 13, 2015, in Milton Keynes, England with the lone goal coming from an Alex Morgan header.

•The USA has played six times in Tampa, Fla., including two games at Raymond James Stadium. Most recently, the USA defeated France, 1-0, in June of 2014 on a goal from Sydney Leroux.

•The USA has played just five times in the state of Tennessee (three in Chattanooga and two in Nashville at what is currently Nissan Stadium). Most recently, the USA defeated Scotland 3-1 in February of 2013.

•The USA has played five matches in Boca Raton, including two at FAU Stadium, a 4-1 win against China PR in 2012 and a 7-0 victory against Russia in 2014.

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS AND TAMPA SPORTS AUTHORITY ANNOUNCE PLANS FOR COMPREHENSIVE RENOVATIONS TO RAYMOND JAMES STADIUM

State-of-the-Art HD Video Boards to Provide Third-Largest Combined Video Space Among NFL Stadiums

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Sports Authority have tentatively reached an agreement that would result in a comprehensive renovation of Raymond James Stadium. The multi-stage renovation plan is expected to exceed $100 million and must receive approval from Hillsborough County, the City of Tampa, and the TSA Board of Directors. The TSA’s contribution to the overall project is $28.8 million, of which $25.8 million was already required of the TSA to maintain Raymond James Stadium. The additional $3 million from TSA was agreed upon to further enlarge and enhance the initial proposed new video boards. Sources for the public funding are available from recent TSA bond refinancing savings and the 4th cent Tourist Development Tax. The Buccaneers are responsible for all remaining improvement costs.

“This is a great day for our entire community as we work toward an agreement that ensures Raymond James Stadium will remain one of the top sports facilities in the country,” said Buccaneers Chief Operating Officer Brian Ford. “The proposed agreement will provide the type of much-needed enhancements that will improve the in-game experience for our loyal Buccaneer fans and will play a key role in our ability to attract the types of large-scale events that we have grown accustomed to hosting over the years. These exciting projects have been made possible through the hard work and foresight of all parties, including public officials from the TSA, Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa.”

The proposed first stage of the renovations are scheduled to be completed for the Buccaneers 2016 season. The centerpiece of the first phase of projects will be the installation of new, state-of-the-art HD video boards in each end zone, four HD tower video displays in each corner of the lower bowl and HD ribbon boards in the center ring of the suite level. The proposed new end zone boards will be expanded and measure 9,600 square feet each, while each tower display will measure 2,304 square feet for a total video display area of 28,416 square feet—the third-largest in the NFL. The project will also include a new, state-of-the-art sound system and concessions upgrades, in addition to the renovation of all luxury suites. The second phase of renovations – which will be completed in time for the team’s 2017 season – will include an extensive renovation of the east and west club lounges, expansions of the general concourses, construction of a team store, and other general fan enhancements.

The Buccaneers are committed to spend a minimum of $29 million on Phase 1 improvements and $28.8 million on Phase 2, combined with the TSA’s $28.8 million. Additional enhancements are expected to be added, which would put the total project in excess of $100 million. The Buccaneers would be responsible for all costs of any additional enhancements. In consideration of the additional $3 million TSA has proposed for the enhanced video boards, the Buccaneers have agreed to change the revenue split above $2 million in TSA profits, from 50/50 to a 67/33 split in favor of TSA.

“The proposed improvements would be a huge win for our community, as fans will be provided an enhanced event experience and Tampa will be uniquely positioned to host future world class events at Raymond James Stadium,” said Tampa Sports Authority President/CEO Eric Hart. “I would like to thank the administrations of both Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa, along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their efforts in developing this innovative plan.”

The agreement is scheduled to be presented for consideration and approval to the full TSA Board of Directors on December 15th, followed by the Hillsborough County Commission the following day on December 16th and the Tampa City Council on December 17th.

Halloween brings a bounty of treats for Tampa Bay tourism

Taylor Swift, military convention and hockey pack hotels, boost revenues

TAMPA (Nov. 5, 2015) – With major help from Taylor Swift, Halloween brought a bounty of goodies to Hillsborough County’s hospitality industry:

·       Preliminary figures by hotel industry analyst STR Inc. show Tampa Bay’s hotels nearly maxed out their occupancy on Oct. 31, reaching 89.1 percent – a jump of 34 percent from the previous year.

·       On that day alone, total hotel revenues broke the $2 million mark – more than 62 percent higher than the year before.

·       Revenue per available room, a key measure of hotel profitability, jumped 63 percent over the previous Halloween.

Halloween capped a week that included MILCOM 2015, the convention of the Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association International, which ran from Oct. 25 to Oct. 30 and generated more than 3,300 room-nights in local hotels.

On top of all that, the Tampa Bay Lightning played the Boston Bruins at Amalie Arena on Halloween.

“It was a stellar week for Tampa Bay tourism,” said Santiago Corrada, president & CEO of Visit Tampa Bay, Hillsborough County’s destination marketing organization. “The combination of a major concert, major convention and major sporting event put us in the national spotlight and brought millions of dollars of revenue to this community. The fact that all three happened basically the same time is testament to the ability of the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County to skillfully manage multiple major events at once.”

Visit Tampa Bay estimates that the sold-out Taylor Swift concert – her final stop on her “1989” national tour – produced 9,000 room-nights and $10 million in economic impact all by itself. The concert filled Raymond James Stadium with 57,000 screaming fans.

Visit Tampa Bay joined forces with the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, Visit Florida, and the Tampa Sports Authority (which manages Raymond James Stadium), to promote the Taylor Swift concert on the radio in four of Tampa Bay’s key leisure-travel markets: New York City, Atlanta, Charlotte, N.C., and Jacksonville. Together, the promotions amounted to more than $700,000 in free media and had an audience of 10.5 million people.

“To host the final stop on Taylor Swift’s U.S. Tour was truly an honor and I would like to thank Taylor and her management team for this opportunity,” said Eric Hart, President/CEO of the Tampa Sports Authority. “With the support of Visit Tampa Bay and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, we were able to deliver a significant impact to Tampa tourism and we look forward to hosting more marquee events in the future.”

TAMPA, Fla. – July 23, 2015 – The State of Florida has recognized Rogers Park Golf Course by listing it on the National Register of Historic Places. This milestone will be recognized during the regular board meeting of the Tampa Sports Authority at 4:00 PM on July 27th, 2015. The meeting will be held in the boardroom of the Authority offices located at 4201 North Dale Mabry Highway (south end of Raymond James Stadium).

The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the nation’s historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America’s historic and archaeological resources. Rogers Park Golf Course, built in 1952, has evolved as one of Tampa, Florida's best-kept secrets. The beautiful 18-hole golf facility is steeped in history and rich in heritage. During the days of segregation, Rogers Park was the only picnic area for the African-American community in Tampa. The park took the name of its contributor, G.D. Rogers. Mayor Curtis Hixon gave permission to a group of local golfers to build a 9-hole golf course. The first Head Golf Professional, Willie Black, directed his group of volunteers, and with meticulous care, all of the tree removal and shaping was done by hand. Upon its completion in 1952, the Rogers Park Golf Club was born.

In 1976, the City of Tampa gave management rights to the newly formed Tampa Sports Authority, and a $400,000 renovation project began. In 2000, the Tampa Sports Authority decided that a $4 million renovation was needed. An array of other landscaping and reshaping of holes was added to enhance the character of Rogers Park Golf Course, and in 2001, a new maintenance compound was completed and followed by a new clubhouse in 2002.

Eric Hart, CFE, Receives the 2015 Ray W. Ward Award

Congratulations to Eric Hart, CFE, recipient of the 2015 Ray W. Ward Award, presented by the Regents of the Venue Management School(VMS) at Oglebay (which began 29 years ago with the generous support of the IAVM Foundation). The announcement was made by Regents Chair Michael Marion and was presented at the graduation banquet on June 11.

“I am honored and humbled by being named the recipient of this year’s Ray Ward Award,” said Hart, president and CEO of the Tampa Sports Authority. “Ray’s legacy with VMS is legendary, a person who has been a mentor to me since I become involved with the school. To receive the award named for this icon is the greatest recognition I could ever imagine.”

The award recognizes an individual associated with VMS whose dedicated service and extraordinary contributions over a period of at least six years have resulted in significant and long lasting improvements to the overall success and quality of the school. The award was created and initially  presented to Ward in August 1996.

“I’ve known Eric for many years, and his recognition is especially satisfying,” Ward said. “He has served in many capacities, all of which benefited the school, including as Regents Chair. He has served well, with great enthusiasm and has focused his considerable abilities and energy on expanding and improving all of the elements of the school.”
