BATTLE AT THE BABE
Tampa, FL...December 16, 2010...PGA Tour members, Gary Koch and Woody Austin will take on T.J. Heidel, head golf pro at Rogers Park Golf Course at this year’s Battle at the Babe. Last year’s exciting stroke play match will become an 18-hole skins game amongst the trio on December 29, 2010.
Gary Koch got his first taste in professional golf in 1970 when he won the USGA Junior Amateur Championship in 1970. He has six career PGA Tour victories with the last one coming in 1988 at the Panasonic-Las Vegas Invitational. Currently, he is very active in golf course design with his company, Robbins/Koch Golf Designs, Inc.
Woody Austin, a Tampa native, is a three time winner on the PGA Tour, member of the 2007 President’s Cup team and former course record holder at “The Babe.” Austin grew up playing on Babe Zaharias Golf Course and has been an active supporter of programs at the course.
T.J. Heidel began his career with the Tampa Sports Authority in 1995, moving up to head golf pro in 2008 at Babe Zaharias Golf Course, where he first learned the game. His score of 60 on the course makes him the current course record holder. T.J. is currently the head golf pro at Rogers Park Golf Course, another Tampa Sports Authority managed courses.
On Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 10 a.m. Koch, Austin and Heidel will square off at Babe Zaharias Golf Course for the 18-hole contest. The cost is $10.00 per ticket for spectators and will permit walking only. Sponsorships start as little as $250.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the First Tee of Tampa.
